According to a self-congratulatory post on Facebook, a quick response by Fuerza Publica officials led to the rescue of a caged Scarlet Macaw from a home located in Chorotega de Alajuelita yesterday, after most likely spending years in captivity there.

Thanks to police efforts, the rescued Macaw was immediately transported to Refugio Herpetologico de Costa Rica in Santa Ana, where for a small fee, visitors will be able to feed sunflower seeds to the endangered bird as part of their guided tour.

They also sell Pizza.

Although thriving populations of Scarlet Macaws can still be found in protected areas such as Corcovado, Carara National Parks and people’s houses in Alajuelita, due to trapping for the pet trade, these amazing birds are now extinct over most parts of Central America.

Squawk.
