BREAKING: An Antigo, Wisconsin native is lucky to be alive, after being drugged, beaten, stabbed and tortured by unidentified assailants in Playa del Coco, Guancacaste.
The man, identified as Ryan J Messerschmidt, had already visited a few different areas of Costa Rica, but according to his mother Patricia, it was Coco Beach where he ran into trouble; and according to ABC News in Wisconsin, Costa Rica is an island.
According to the drugged, beaten, stabbed and tortured man’s sister, it could have been worse if weren’t for all the prayer warriors who took the time to write the words “praying” underneath her post on Facebook.
Ryan’s sister and brother-in-law are planning to head down to Costa Rica to help make sure Ryan gets all the prayers and positive vibes everyone has sent him, some of the more convincing of which we have reposted below:
The Costa Rica Post tried to reach out to the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica but we had no money left on our prepaid Movistar line, but the U.S. State Department’s Press Officer for the Bureau of Consular Affairs did issue a statement:
“The U.S. Department of State and our embassies and consulates abroad have no greater responsibility than the protection of U.S. citizens overseas. When a U.S. citizen is missing, we work closely with local authorities as they carry out their search efforts. Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment.”
This is breaking story so more information will be shared as it becomes available.
