Yesterday marked the 70th anniversary since Costa Rica abolished its military. Costa Rica, a peaceful land full of jungle folk, ranked first in Latin America and 12th in world in happiness, according to the 2017 World Happiness Index, while an angry Expat we were talking to on Facebook placed it closer to No. 325

The country’s secret is something that no other country in the world can claim — no standing army. Well, unless of course you count all the other countries in the world without any armed forces, a few of which we have listed below:

Andorra
Dominica
Grenada
Haiti
Iceland
Kiribati
Liechtenstein
Marshall Islands
Mauritius
Micronesia
Monaco
Palau
Panama
St. Lucia
St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Samoa
San Marino
Solomon Islands
Tuvalu
Vanuatu
